Apple has removed VKontakte, Russia’s largest social networking app, from its App Store.
VK is the largest Russian social network, with over 100 million active users. Other apps developed by VK, a Russian technology company, were also removed from the app store.
In a press release, Russian technology giant VK stated, “Now some VK applications are blocked by Apple, so they are not available for download and update in the App Store.”
Earlier, Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Apple announced in March that it would suspend all online sales in Russia. As of September, sales had not resumed.
Russia’s government has blocked several American social networking sites, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, since its invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
In response to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, the United States and other governments have already imposed numerous sanctions on the country.
