The bookings for Chetak will commence from January 15. There will be a total of six variants dominated by two model lines, urban and premium. It has a running range of 95 km per charge and will give 3 years of warranty or 50,000 km and 3 free services. What’s interesting is that the vehicle comes in Eco mode, which can go 95 km while the Sport mode can go 85 km.

Rakesh Sharma, executive director at Bajaj Auto Ltd said, “We would like to first observe the demand for the electric Chetak in Bangalore and Pune to get an understanding of this emerging space. “We plan to get the first electric vehicle right as the technology is new,” said Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto Ltd.

Other benefits include full digital sales, seamless home charging (which can go from 0% to 100% in 5 hours). Its IP67-rated high-tech lithium-ion battery is a standard household 15 A power socket which is not swappable but can be easily charged. Chetak will also have a reverse mode that will make tricky parking spots easy to park in. The two-wheeler will be available in 6 colors which aren’t revealed as of this article.

Chetak marks Bajaj Auto’s venture into the electric vehicle space. The two-wheeler will be made available city-wise, Bangalore being their first choice, followed by Pune. To do so, Bajaj has chosen 13 pro-biking dealerships in Bangalore while 4 in Pune.

Chetak marks the beginning of electric scooters in India. It will be interesting to see if the Tesla-like phase comes to India or not.
