Facebook is reported to test an Instagram feed-like feature in its main app. As per a report by TechCrunch, Facebook is testing a feature called ‘Popular Photos’ that is apparently an endless scroll of pictures from people on your Facebook friend list. These pictures appear in an Instagram feed-like manner and are selected algorithmically.
When a Facebook user taps on a photo, it usually creates a full-screen black background with more images. So, when users open a picture they will see a ‘See More Photos’ at the bottom of the page and each picture will show only about 65 characters from the captions in order to keep it short. Moreover, it may appear the way ‘related videos’ section appears on the Facebook app.
The company was testing this in October and is now “iterating on the product and plans to do updated tests in the future,” confirmed a Facebook spokesperson. Also, Facebook was spotted testing a new option in the Facebook app’s navigation bar called Shortcut Bar Settings. The same was confirmed by a Facebook spokesperson who said, ”We are rolling out navigation bar controls to make it easier for people to connect with the things they like and control the notifications they get within the Facebook app.”
The feature will allow users to remove certain tabs including Watch Groups, Marketplace, Profile, Events, News, Friend Requests, Today In, Gaming, and Dating or they can simply mute their notification dots. Moreover, the feature is confirmed to come to all the users on both Android and iOS.
