They say variety is the spice of life. It truly is, especially in this day and age of technological revolutions where we can change things without thinking twice. This applies to change the wallpapers twice a day or changing your smartphone twice a year. But how about we talk about something that can be changed without making a hole in our pockets. Fonts! Yes. It is an essential element of our everyday life as we stare at our phone/laptop screens for more time that we should. Whether you are a graphic designer or someone who’s been told to make an impressive presenting for an annual meeting – you need a font that can be read across all devices as well as serve a purpose of change. So, let’s take a look at how to install fonts on your Windows 10 PC.
How To Install Fonts On Windows 10
Both the methods you are about to read are based on downloading the fonts from different sources.
METHOD 1: MICROSOFT STORE
We all know it exists but it is rarely used. Windows Store, unlike Google Play Store or the Apple Store, doesn’t have a lot of choices when it comes to downloading apps but nevertheless, it’s the only decent and safe option.
Open the Microsoft Store and search for fonts. You’ll see a number of options. Click on Explore new fonts. There are some free and some paid fonts but we say stick to the free ones. Select any font from the sea of options.
When you open a font, click on Get option and install it. Once it’s downloaded and installed, you’ll get Manage as an option. Click on it.
A new window will be opened wherein you can manage a few things related to the newly installed fonts. You can preview the font, change its size, and select a font face. There’s also an uninstall option to quickly delete the font.
METHOD 2: THIRD-PARTY FONTS
Windows lets you install fonts with extension OpenType (.otf), PostScript Type 1 (.pfb + .pfm), TrueType (.ttf), or TrueType Collection (.ttc). There are some fabulous websites that let you download fonts for free. Some of them are FonstSpace which offers over 38,000 fonts in TrueType and OpenType. The other site is Behance, which has beautiful fonts, aimed at graphic artists. And the last one is 1001 free fonts known by many, which has over 10,001 fonts neatly organized into 64 categories. There are more sites through which you can download different types of fonts.
Open Downloads and you’ll see that the fonts were downloaded as a ZIP file. Right click on the ZIP file and select Extract here. A folder will be created by the font’s name.
Once it’s installed, you have three options to install the font in your Windows 10 PC. You can search for Fonts in the Windows search option. It will open the Fonts settings. Drag and drop the font into the settings panel.
The other option is to install the font by right-clicking on the font and selecting Install. A dialog box will tell you that the font has been installed.
Last but not the least – double click on the font and big box will pop-up showing you how it looks in a sentence or numerically. There are two other options – Print and Install. Click on Install.
Fonts are an integral part of the digital shenanigans we indulge in so why not impress people by selecting some distinctive fonts. Installing fonts is heck easy. Also, don’t forget to browse through different websites to get unique fonts.
