Samsung claims it sold half a million Galaxy Folds

Samsung is high on the success of its S10, Note 10 series, and the Fold. Perhaps too high. After a wrong claim that 1 million Galaxy Fold phones were sold, Samsung has again made a vague claim of selling over 400,000 to 500,000 Galaxy Fold in 2019 – by its own CEO.

Samsung co-CEO DJ Koh said, “I think we’ve sold 400,000 to 500,000 Galaxy Fold smartphones.” This number may be close to reality as DJ Koh runs the entire mobile phone division. But the numbers are still uncertain considering the co-CEO is unsure about the exact figure.

The statement was made during an interview session at CES. Even though the figure’s still vague, it’s fair as the Fold is still a niche product with limited availability. With a price tag of $1980 (₹164,999 in India), it’s impressive that people had the audacity to buy such an expensive device.

Keeping the feel of the product alive, the South Korean giant will unveil its sequel, the Galaxy Fold 2, alongside the Galaxy S20. This time though, the design will be a clamshell.
