In the battle for gaming console dominance, Sony has beaten Microsoft and Nintendo and has become the second-biggest selling home console of all time. As per a Sony announcement about its Q2 earnings report, a total of 2.8 million PS4 consoles were sold in the period between July and September.
The sale record of the PS4 was 100 million in Q1 and when we add both Q1 and Q2, the sale record stands at 102.8 million. On the other hand, the original Sony PlayStation sold 102.5 million units.
The PlayStation 4 is surpassed by Sony’s own PlayStation 2 which ranks at number 1 with 155 million sales. Moreover, PS4 has a series of titles lined up for release and Japanese auteur Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding is one of the big ones that feature the likes of actors like Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen and even film director Guillermo Del Toro.
Other titles include The Last of Us Part II, Shenmue III, Doom Eternal, Ghosts of Tsushima, CyberPunk 2077 and more. The company is also planning to release the PlayStation 5 next holiday station.
