Chandrayaan 2 is in the news yet again. It was reported that the Vikram lander hit Moon’s lunar surface but did not soft land. According to ISRO Chairman K Sivan, the planned soft-landing wasn’t successful. A new piece of news suggests the orbiter has located Vikram lander but there’s a catch. No communication has been made with it yet.
#VikramLander has been located by the orbiter of #Chandrayaan2, but no communication with it yet.
All possible efforts are being made to establish communication with lander.#ISRO— ISRO (@isro) September 10, 2019
ISRO confirmed on Monday via a tweet that the Vikram lander hasn’t crash-landed on the moon’s surface and it is in a single piece. This update is a glimmer of hope amidst Saturday’s heartbreaking news that said communications were lost with the lander.
The Vikram lander, as a part of Chandrayaan 2 mission was scheduled to reach the moon’s lunar surface on September 7 but all communications were lost with the Orbiter and ISRO’s team on Earth. ISRO also added that they will be attempting to re-establish the lost communication with the Vikram lander.
Space researcher Debi Prasad Duari said that this can be seen as good news and everyone is keenly waiting for detailed information.
