Sony is taking the rare step of increasing the cost of the PlayStation 5, nearly two years after the console's launch.
Sony justifies the price hike by pointing to the difficult global economic climate, high inflation, and currency issues.
Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment said, our first priority is to solve the PS5 supply problem, which has made the console difficult for eager purchasers to find.
The disc-free PS5 Digital Edition is priced at $399.99, while the normal PlayStation 5 is still available for $499.99 in the United States.
As of June 2022, Ampere Analysis estimates that Sony has shipped 21 million PS5s whereas Microsoft had only shipped 13.8 million.
