WhatsApp is finally rolling out the dark mode after a long wait, but there’s a catch. The dark mode is currently limited to only WhatsApp beta users as of now but it will soon roll out to non-beta users if the feedback is good.
The world-famous Facebook-owned messaging app is quite late to the party as many of its rivals have already implemented the dark mode. But hey, as they say, better late than never. Beta users can go to the Plat Store to download the update which bears the version number 2.20.13. If you can’t see any update, you can manually download the APK from APK Mirror. Non-beta users can also download the APK from the link. WhatsApp will work without any errors.
If you’re on the latest beta, or you’ve downloaded the APK, you can easily switch to the dark mode. Here’s how:
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp. Tap on the three dots and click on Settings.
Step 2: Tap on Chats.
Step 3: You’ll see a new option ‘Theme.’ Tap on it.
Step 4: There will be three options on the display – System Default, Light, and Dark. If your Android device is on Android 10 and you have switched on the Dark/Night mode, click on System Default but if you turn off the dark mode, WhatsApp will get the light theme. It’s best to select Dark.
The dark mode is applied throughout the application. You’ll notice that it’s not AMOLED dark but it’s night blue. It sure feels calm on the eyes. Even the chat wallpaper goes dark. The chat bubbles are colored green and the other person’s messages are in black color. The blue ticks are noticeable without any issue.
